Prostatectomy Program of Care
Step One: Initial Visit Pre - Surgery (2-6 weeks before surgery)
- Understanding the anatomy & physiology of the prostate and the pelvic floor muscles
- Discussion on what to expect post surgery
- Review Kegel exercises and reverse kegels
- Ensure optimal hydration, nutrition, bladder and bowel function to optimize healing post surgery
- Review post operative rehabilitation
Step Two: Visit #2 (2 weeks after Surgery)
- Review of education provided in Pre-op appointment
- Bladder Retraining
- Reviewing kegels focusing on strength and education
- Reviewing hydration, bladder and bowel function
- Initiation of pad protocol
- Review of body mechanics, posture and functional Movements.
Step Three: Visit #3 (weekly visits)
- Progression of pad protocol weekly
- Assessing amount of urinary leakage
- Reviewing and progressing Kegel Strengthening
- Introducing functional and core strengthening exercises
- Return to pre-operative exercises
